S. Nageeb Ali is a Professor of Economics at Pennsylvania State University. His research is on microeconomic theory and political economy. His work covers a range of topics, including zero-sum thinking, repeated games, information disclosure, and dynamic bargaining. His research has been published in the American Economic Review, Econometrica, Quarterly Journal of Economics, Review of Economic Studies, and other leading journals.
He received his B.A. summa cum laude in Economics and Mathematics from Brandeis University in 1999 and his Ph.D. in Economics from Stanford University in 2007, where he was advised by Susan C. Athey and B. Douglas Bernheim. Before joining Penn State in 2015, he was on the faculty at UC San Diego. He has also held visiting positions at Harvard University and Microsoft Research.
He is a Fellow of the Econometric Society and an Economic Theory Fellow of the Society for the Advancement of Economic Theory. He has received teaching awards from Penn State and UC San Diego. His research has been supported by the National Science Foundation.
He has served on the editorial boards of numerous journals. He currently serves as a Co-Editor of the American Economic Journal: Microeconomics and as a Foreign Editor of the Review of Economic Studies.
On a personal note, Nageeb is from Bangladesh. He was born in Warsaw, Poland, and grew up in several countries. State College is the place he has called home longest. He enjoys living there with his wife, two daughters, and their goldendoodle.
